This newsletter marks a huge milestone for us, we've finally hit our third year of ownership which is aptly celebrated with leather. According to historical sources....
The leather anniversary is significant because by the third year "it is believed couples are aware of the marriage’s durability, and tradition has it that while the initial honeymoon period is well and truly over, husband and wife have discovered and dealt with the more irritating and less enjoyable aspects of each others personality and got through that stage successfully so the marriage has even more chance of lasting.
Leather is therefore chosen to mark the third year due to its feel of resilience, durability, strength and flexibility as all these qualities are important in helping a business to continue to flourish.
2014-2015 has seen a lot of change in the music industry with the faltering of large music retailers, massive improvements in electric guitar effects, and an upswing in younger musicians becoming more involved in traditional American Musics' and utilizing folk instruments in the world of pop.
In our own hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont, we've weathered huge changes over the last three years that have brought us through the honeymoon phase: from Hurricane Irene to losing 1/4 of our Main St due to a fire. After making it through these three years, Maple Leaf Music is happy to welcome the re-opening of the Brooks Building which is anchored by an amazing farm to table restaurant (Duo), the addition of a new brewery (Hermit Thrush) and the opening of at least ten new retail stores. Downtown Brattleboro is now a thriving destination for food, art and shopping with the proximity to the outdoor beauty of the CT River Valley.
This has been a productive year for us and we're thrilled to re-introduce American made Guild's as well as adding Cedar Mountain Banjos, a small hand-made banjo builder from Brevard North Carolina. Later this year, you will see the reintroduction of one of the best American acoustic guitar builders to our shop. Goodall Guitars are handcrafted in Fort Bragg, California. We've pulled out all the stops on our orders to select some of the most highly figured tonewoods we've ever seen. These guitars will truly be sonic works of art.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for continuing to support “your local music store”—even if that means you’re one of our friends from New York, California, Texas or Northern Provinces of Canada. As we look back over the last, bustling year, we realize how much of a pleasure it’s been to see so many familiar faces returning time and time again and to meet new music lovers visiting the shop for the first time.
