Whetstone Instruments
Scott Hausmann has been building musical instruments in the Brattleboro area since 1975 when he studied guitar making with Gib Taylor and Michael Gurian at Marlboro College. Following graduation Scott worked as a shop foreman at Gurian Guitars, and he’s also worked in various capacities as part of the team at Froggy Bottom Guitars. Scott is now Director of the Whetstone School of Lutherie where he teaches the guitar and ukulele building courses.
Whetstone guitars and ukuleles harken to an era past when old world hand craftsmanship was central to the construction of any fine instrument. The Whetstone guitars and ukuleles that we carry at Maple Leaf Music are hand-made with loving care and quality tonewoods in Scott Hausmann’s Brattleboro Vermont based workshop. His guitars are known for displaying a strong voice that is woody and clear, and professional set-ups that make them really fun to play. His soprano ukuleles are patterned after the old Martin ukes from the early 30's, these little ones have radiused fingerboards, arched backs, and lightning fast necks.
He currently directs the http://whetstoneschooloflutherie.com/ where he also teaches the guitar and ukulele building courses.
